Staying with the theme of last week's Trailer Of The Week, this week again features a documentary which recently had an airing at Sheffield's Doc/Fest (excellent coverage of which you can read at Slacker Cinema). Bombay Beach tells the story of a tiny and poor community in California where various personalities have chosen to live their lives for various reasons. Although the trailer doesn't make it abundantly clear, Alma Har'el's narrative apparently centres on three of the Beach's inhabitants, using them to examine life on the fringe's of American society. The dream-like quality of the visuals lend the trailer the look of a Terrence Malick film and it will be interesting to see if such a style can survive the course of a feature length documentary, where viewers are more accustomed to much straighter camera work. No word on when we'll get to find out though: the film is presently without a release date although it is currently playing at The Edinburgh Film Festival.
Trailer Of The Week is a regular Film Intel feature which picks a different tasty trailer of delectable goodness every week and presents it on Sunday for your viewing pleasure. Sometimes old, sometimes new, sometimes major, sometimes independent, sometimes brilliant, sometimes a load of old bobbins: always guaranteed to entertain.
