The trailer for Harold Ramis' seasonally cold comedy The Ice Harvest is not only appropriate for this time of year but also falls neatly into that category of trailers that end up being better than the film they represent. The Ice Harvest's is everything that the film wants to be; blackly comic, fast, funny and slightly charming but the film itself falls over in too many places and can't keep the pace Ramis wants to set. The script too isn't as funny as the trailer suggests and the grandiose talents of John Cusack, Oliver Platt and Billy Bob Thornton are largely wasted in a below average thriller and very middle of the road comedy. Nice trailer though.

I remember this. Not very good at all.
ReplyDeleteAnother trailer better than the film - The Men Who Stare at Goats. Which is a shame.
Cusack does so many bad roles that it's making me sad. He's such a smart guy WHY is he picking such bad films? I don't get it at all...
ReplyDeleteChris - spot on with THE MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS. Trailer had me really looking forward to it.
ReplyDelete5plitreel - it's disappointing when good actors pick mediocre roles but just the way the world works I suppose. His upcoming Edgar Allan Poe film is looking good though I must say.
